Pentium
IIII 3.2 Ghz 800Mhz FSB 512 Level 2 Cache
Hyper Threading Enabled
A brief explanation of why I run an Intel based platform:
of course Intel and AMD will continue to wage war with
each other in the never ending battle for CPU speed. If
you read enough articles in magazines and on the web you
will soon realize that two camps have taken root, mainly
gamers and enterprise level. Gamers can get very serious
about there PCs and the new AMD chips score very high
in various 3D benchmarks, many of which out pace any Intel
CPU on the market, but when it comes to shear raw processing
power the crown still goes to Intel. As with anything
in life it all depends on what your needs and budgets
are.
AMD produces a very
good CPU and I have owned many through the years and may
go back again but for now this P4 3.2 really rocks every
application I can throw at it. Frame rates are just benchmarks
for me, while I like an occasional game my main focus
is on processing power and data integrity. I generally
stay at least one notch behind the fastest processors
because I get a better deal for my money that way. The
next few years will be very exciting in the CPU arena.
Most publications say gamers should go with AMD while
desktop publishers and other power users should stick
with Intel and this has been my train of thought for a
long time.
The IntelŪ PentiumŪ
4 processor family supporting Hyper-Threading Technology1
(HT Technology) delivers Intel's most advanced, most powerful
processors for desktop PCs and entry-level workstations,
which are based on the Intel NetBurstŪ microarchitecture.
The Pentium 4 processor is designed to deliver performance
across applications and usages where end-users can truly
appreciate and experience the performance. These applications
include Internet audio and streaming video, image processing,
video content creation, speech, 3D, CAD, games, multimedia,
and multitasking user environments. The IntelŪ PentiumŪ
4 processor Extreme Edition supporting HT Technology features
2MB of L3 cache and offers high levels of performance
targeted specifically for high-end gamers and computing
power users.
With Hyper-Threading Technology, desktop users can experience
greater system responsiveness and performance when multitasking.
At home, users can encode audio and video at the same
time or run a virus scan in the background without diminishing
performance on their favorite game. In the office, HT
Technology enables IT managers to deploy PC services such
as encryption, compression or backup technologies while
minimizing the impact on PC user productivity. In addition,
multitasking business workers can experience greater system
responsiveness enabling increased productivity. In summary,
the Pentium 4 processor supporting HT Technology delivers
a new level of performance and PC responsiveness for consumers
and business professionals.
ASUS P4P
800 Deluxe Main Board with Intel 865PE Chipset (Northbridge)
P4P800
Introduction. Speed that blows your mind. One of the most
reliable motherboards available. Leveraging the Intel 865PE
chipset to support 3.2 GHz+ P4 CPU on 800MHz FSB, Dual DDR
400 memory, Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, and a full-range
of advanced features, P4P800 Deluxe really delivers a full-value,
high-performance solution for today's most demanding tasks.
Dual-channel DDR technology doubles the bandwidth of your
system memory and hence boost the system performance to
out perform any memory existing solutions in the market.
System bottlenecks are eliminated with balanced architecture
and peak bandwidths up to 6.4GB/s. The AI Series supports
Gigabit LAN by integrating the 3COM 3C940 controller, equipped
with a unique net-diagnosing Marvell utility-- VCT (Virtual
Cable Tester). The controller intelligently detects net
connection status up to 100 meters from a remote location
and reports the distance of bad cable. AI series motherboards
employed the world's first intelligent audio CODEC. The
6-channel AD1985 audio CODEC automatically detects and identifies
what types of peripherals are plugged into the audio I/O
jacks and notifies users of inappropriate connection, meaning
there will be no more confusion of Line-in, Line-out and
Mic jacks.
Whenever BIOS gets corrupted, ASUS CrashFree BIOS 2 allows
users to reboot the computer and perform an smart auto-recovery
procedure through the motherboard support CD. This unique
technology intelligently and automatically adjusts CPU fan
speeds according to system load and temperature, enabling
users to work in a distraction-free environment with minimal
noise. A voice warning design during POST notifies users
of any system errors, which means no more complicated LED
messages! A unique option in BIOS that enables quick overclocking
up to 30% (depends on CPU and RAM). It automatically detects
and optimizes every relevant parameter to provide both performance
and stability. The VIA IDE-RAID controller supports two-channel
ATA 133, enabling users to build Maximum 4 ATA-133 hard
disk as an RAID0, 1 , 0+1 , JBOD array. And the graphical
user interface provides an easy way to configure and manage
disk drives or disk arrays connected. IEEE 1394 interface
provides high speed digital interface for audio / video
appliances such as digital television, digital video camcorders,
storage peripherals & other PC portable devices.
AGP8X (AGP 3.0) is the next generation VGA interface specification
that enables enhanced graphics performance with high bandwidth
up to 2.12GB/s. Intel is the world's first chipset maker
to integrate Serial ATA (SATA) and RAID 0, 1 functions into
the South Bridge. The latest ICH5R chipset now delivers
150MB/s fast data transfer (SATA) and striping performance
to enhance computing efficiency. Max. 8 USB 2.0 ports supports
USB 2.0 is the latest connectivity standard for next generation
components and peripherals. Backwards compatible with current
USB 1.1 peripherals, USB 2.0 delivers transfer speeds up
to 40 times faster at 480Mb/s, for easy connectivity and
ultra-fast data transfers. ASUS provides friendly localized
BIOS setup menu to help you configure your system as easy
as possible. ** For multi-language BIOS, please visit the
ASUS website for supported languages information.

1 Gig OCZ Dual Channel
PC 3700 Gold Edition Rev. 2
Note: I opted for PC
3700 because the engineer at OCZ and I agreed (after an
hour on the phone) that PC4000 would be a waste of money
because I will not hit that speed with my current setup.
This RAM has the ability to possibly reach 500Mhz if it
is massaged correctly. I HIGHLY recommend OCZ, Corsair wouldn't
even answer the phone.
OCZ Dual Channel Gold
Edition PC-3700 Revision 2 memory is specifically designed
for high frequency operation on Intel i865 and i875 chipset
based motherboards through the use of OCZ HyperSpeed and
ULN technology. It is capable of achieving outrageous speeds
of up to 466MHZ at CL 2.5-3-3-7.
Every Dual Channel Kit from OCZ is hand
tested as a matched pair across a wide variety of mainboards
in order to ensure flawless performance.
Each OCZ Gold Edition module comes with
a high quality copper heatspreader with a gold mirrored
finish that not only helps dissipate heat but looks good
in a windowed PC case as well.
